Amazing Apples: Fall back into the school year by peeling away the mystery of apples and apple cider making. Join us as we take your students through the journey of an apple seed’s life, as it leaves its fellow seeds behind, to sprout forward into the new venture of becoming a tree. The program will continue as the tree blossoms with beautiful flowers to later producing the delicious fruits, which we know as apples. The conclusion of the program will be the process of transforming this amazing fruit into fresh cider. Each hands-on, interpretive workshop will guide the students through the wonders of apples and will conclude with them making delicious apple cider from scratch. Workshops are designed for pre-K through 12th grade with a maximum of 35 students per session.

Note: This program is designed to align with the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum Science Standard for Life Science (3A,3B,3C). This program coincides with the standards by discussing: the life cycle of an organism; its main parts and functions; the specific traits which enable it to survive in a specific environment.

Bugs: Delve into the fascinating world of insects. We conduct a hands-on presentation with live insects as we discuss “What makes a bug a bug.” Through question and answer sessions, we engage the students in interactive learning about habitats, camouflage and predatory/prey relationships as we learn how to live with these six-legged creatures and their eight-legged arachnid predators.

Magnificent Minerals of Maryland: What is a rock? What is a mineral? Learn about the three types of rocks and how they are formed. We bring 150+ lbs of different samples to your classroom to further illustrate the many properties of rocks and minerals of Maryland and surrounding states. We also discuss how these minerals are utilized in the products we see around our homes, (i.e. Light bulbs, paint, pencils, cement, etc.) Classroom workshops are designed for K through 12th grade with a maximum of 35 students per session

Native American Life: Gather around as we discuss the various aspects of the lifestyles of the Native Americans found in this region, the Eastern Woodland Indians. We will discuss the jobs and duties of both children and adults, living quarters, food preparation, and other interesting facts about their 1800’s and earlier lifestyle.

Reptile Wonders: What is that scaly creature over there? Join us as we do a hands-on, interactive presentation with 10-13 different exotic species of reptiles. We bring everything from baby turtles to giant tortoises (exceeding 65 lbs), monitor lizards (over 5’ long), to large pythons (over 12’ in length). We discuss where these animals can be found, what they eat, and what eats them. Throughout the program we also discuss the animal's adaptations and defenses specific to each reptile. This programs lasts 45 minutes - 1hour and is catered to grades Pre-K through college.

Seasons: Why is it getting cooler? Why is it getting warmer? We will learn about the changing of the seasons and how they effect the flora and fauna of Maryland. Together we will explore some of the preparations the animals and plants make to ensure they will thrive during these climatic changes.
